Environmental Medicine is a branch of medicine whose domain is not limited by anatomical boundaries but, rather, is concerned with the whole person and the way that a person reacts to his/her total environment.
The approach of Environmental Medicine is wholistic in nature, focusing on every part of the body including the brain which controls thinking, perception, mood, and behavior. Chronic exposure to various stressors can trigger a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional disorders. The body is subjected to many such stressors including infection, allergy, addiction, and toxic chemicals. In time, these exposures can lead to chronic illness and disease.
The Center evaluates each patient in terms of his/her total environment and the impact of that environment on the individual biochemistry. Our main goal is to reduce the total stress load, particularly the total allergic and toxic chemical load. This allergic and/or chemical load can be attributed to any number of factors in the environment including the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, and the chemicals that pollute them.
